Six months ago today I took on the challenge of becoming a blogger. And not just an oh, let me tell you about what I did today blogger, but a real serious blogger. It’s been a good 6 months. There’s been good traffic days and bad traffic days. I’ve suffered the occasional bout of writer’s block, a lack of motivation, entire posts that mysteriously got deleted before I could post them. But a lot of good thing have happened too. I’ve been invited to write a guest post on three different blogs, my blog has been linked to through a post on Copyblogger. Pretty exciting stuff. When I started this blog 6 months ago, I made a list of goals for the year. Let’s take a look and see how I’m doing!
11) Total Website Re-Brandage! (did I make that word up?)
This has been semi-accomplished. While my website is not fully complete, I’ve rebranded it to put more of an emphasis on my social media and blogging rather than my design. Go check it out! I’d love some feedback.
10) Blog More!
Definitely achieved this. Some weeks have been better than others, but I’m starting to get into somewhat of a blogging rhythm.
9) Read More Blogs
Check! Subscribing to way too many blogs to keep track and learning a lot.
8 ) Reach 2,000 Twitter Followers
When I started this blog I had 125 Twitter followers. I’ve now got 568. Way off track if I’m actually going to reach 2,000 by the end of the year, but still a pretty good number. Gotta start picking up the pace if I actually want to get 2,000.
7) Monetize my social media to at least $50 per month.
Ok. Not even close to this one. I simply don’t have the traffic for it. But I’ll keep working at it.
6) Balance my time on and off the computer
Definitely working on this one. Been trying to run more, playing piano. But when you’re trying to run a blog/ looking for a job/ addicted to Bejeweled this can prove a bit difficult.
5) Gain some kick-ass design skills
Eh. This is one of the goals that had to be put on the back burner. I’ve done a little Photoshop here and there, but I’ve taken a greater focus on social media and blogging. This is definitely one I’d like to work on though.
4) Make something that goes viral
The creative juices are flowing, just haven’t actually churned anything out yet. Just wait though :)
3) Explore Denver More (Without ending up in Wyoming)
Well, seeing as I’m not actually in Denver anymore this proves difficult. But I definitely think I started to achieve this. Went on some great hikes, tried some new restaurants and coffee shops, met a few new people. Crossing my fingers that I will be back soon and be able to do even more exploring of Denver and all of Colorado!
2) Save Money!
Considering the small amount of money I’ve actually made in the past six months, I think I’ve done an OK job of saving some of it. Opened up a savings account and got a bit of money in there. Regardless, it’s a good habit to get into for when I start making bank from this job ;)
1) Live life, grab every opportunity and experience that comes my way
Probably not doing as great of a job at this as I should, but I’ve definitely become more open
